Supporting local organizations by strengthening the work behind the mission.
Local First is an Anchor Point Consulting program for community-based organizations serving local needs. Selected organizations receive a free operational review and one focused improvement at no cost.
The goal is simple: reduce wasted time, improve how work gets done, and help organizations protect more of their limited capacity for the people who rely on them.
About the program
Local First exists to help community-based organizations improve how work gets done without needing to commit to a full consulting engagement up front. The goal is to identify one meaningful area of wasted time, confusion, or rework and make a practical improvement that helps the organization serve people more effectively.
Why APC offers this
Many community organizations are doing essential work with limited time, limited staff, and limited operational support. Local First is APC’s way of contributing directly by helping these organizations reduce wasted time, improve key processes, and strengthen the work they already do for local people.
What makes a good fit
The strongest candidates are community-serving organizations with a clear operational pain point, a real need for process improvement, and a practical opportunity to save staff time or reduce friction in day-to-day service delivery.
Selection criteria
Local First is intended for community-serving organizations where a focused improvement can make a clear difference. Submission does not guarantee selection. Applications are reviewed based on mission fit, community impact, operational need, and whether the problem is realistic for the scope of the program.
Organization type
- Food pantry, shelter, housing support, or stabilization program
- Family support, recovery, health access, elder, disability, or youth-serving organization
- Local nonprofit, church-based outreach program, or direct-service community group
Problem fit
- Time is being lost to manual work, rework, confusion, or poor workflow design
- The issue affects day-to-day service delivery, staff capacity, coordination, or internal operations
- The work can likely be improved through a focused, practical intervention
Readiness
- Someone is available to explain the current process clearly
- The organization is willing to test or adopt a reasonable improvement
- The request is focused enough to fit the program scope and support one meaningful improvement
What’s included
Selected organizations receive a limited but useful engagement focused on one problem area. The point is not to deliver a large transformation project. The point is to solve one real operational problem well in a way that supports the organization’s ability to serve the community.
Included at no cost
- One free operational review / consult
- Review of an existing workflow, recurring task, or internal process
- One focused process improvement, workflow adjustment, or lightweight internal tool recommendation
- Clear summary of findings and next-step recommendation
Not included
- Large multi-phase consulting projects
- Open-ended ongoing support
- Custom software builds outside the agreed scope
- Anything requiring broad organizational change across many departments at once
How it works
The process is straightforward. APC reviews submissions, selects organizations that fit the program, and then scopes one practical improvement area.
Apply
Submit your organization’s basic information and describe the operational problem you want reviewed.
Review
APC reviews submissions for fit, scope, and readiness. Not every request will be selected.
Consult
If selected, APC schedules a conversation to understand the current process, pain points, and constraints.
Improve
One focused process improvement or practical recommendation is delivered based on the agreed problem area.
